Earlier we wrote about the communication preferences which bilingual kids have. Today we are focused on the process of learning a new language… and we found that the process also has advantages! For kids, it’s like playing a cool online game: especially when it’s online and educational software is reminiscent of popular computer games for kids. You think this is possible? One Michigan elementary school’s experience shows that it is!
“Michigan students play a computer game to learn,” as southbendtribune.com informs us.
A pilot program launched at Lake City Upper Elementary (Michigan, USA) has targeted upper-elementary pupils, allowing them to learn a foreign language online.
“…Principal Kay Gill said this new technology appears to be an avenue for learning that the students seem to enjoy,” they noticed. “It reminds them of Wii games where you create a Mii… It’s also like Webkinz because you can buy clothes, scenery and accessories,” fifth-grade teacher Phyllis McGiness said.
So the next time your child says that she has to play an online game to learn a foreign language, you have every reason to believe her!
