Recently we mentioned that “38 percent of respondents ages 12 to 14 said they had an online profile,” quoting St. Louis Today. The previous week we found in The Guardian an article entitled “Quarter of eight-to-12-year-olds on Facebook, MySpace or Bebo” with more information about how children behave online.
The annual Children’s Media Literacy Audit conducted by Ofcom that found 37% of those aged 5 to 7 visited pages on Facebook in October 2009 from home. Speaking about older kids, it was noted that 18% of those aged 8 to 11 visited “blogs and information sites such as Wikipedia” in 2009. It was also found that in 2009, the number of 8 to 15-year old kids “who downloaded or watched TV programmes on the internet” increased to 21%.
But what about kids’ interest in online games? Kids of what age mostly play online, and how many of them prefer educational online games? Driving Kids supposes this too should be taken into consideration. Even though these data weren’t given in the survey, maybe our readers would kindly help us and share their own kids’ experience?
