Kids, do your moms know how you find new kids games websites? Do your fathers have any idea what online game for kids is your favorite one? Parents, do you know what your child does online?
A new study conducted by StrategyOne was focused “on the gaps between parents and kids with respect to their online beliefs and behaviors,” as we read on SocialTimes.com.
The study’s results were released in the Norton Online Family Report 2010 (available here).
The report includes the online experiences of more than 7,000 adults and 2,800 children aged 8-17 from 14 countries, including Canada, China, Japan, U.K., and the U.S. According to the global data, kids online games are the most popular activity: 83% of kids play online. “Children in Canada are the top gamers (93%),” the report noted.
After online kids games, web surfing is kids’ favorite online activity (73%). So if you don’t know how your child finds game websites for kids and free kids games online – now you might have an idea! Third place goes to doing schoolwork: 71% of kids are online for this. Although we can’t totally exclude that fun educational games for kids weren’t regarded by children themselves as a useful educational activity ![]()
You aren’t involved in your kids’ online activities, so you can provide them with more independence? Maybe kids want the opposite, the report shows! “Children actually want more parental involvement in their online lives,” they write.
Even if our children ”only” play kids online games, or “only” look at game websites for kids – we have to take care! Let’s train kids to use the whole Internet (and not only its kids’ zone) safely and to their benefit. It’s not complicated: just try to walk in your kids’ shoes, and everything should go like clockwork.
