If you had to choose between free games for kids and free educational games, what would you prefer? With summer at its height, and kids far, far away from their classrooms, children’s games with an educative bent are especially timely!
“Keeping kids learning over summer break is essential,” states Nancy Cecil, a professor of education at Sacramento State (California, U.S.), as we read in The Sacramento Bee’s encouraging article “Hundreds of apps can help kids learn this summer.”
Recently we’ve mentioned the topic of free educational games and activities during the summer. So it’s time to add one more piece of advice to parents’ tip boxes: to keep up your child’s mental activity during the summer, try to fill your kid’s game collection with fun educational games for kids!
Even if your child is not yet of school age, it doesn’t mean that he or she necessarily passes over kids online games or Flash games for kids offline. “Kindergartners are learning to add, subtract and spell on cell phone and computer applications,” we also learned from the article.
“Using technology makes students more interested in learning,” thinks Kathy Shirley, director of technology for Escondido Union School District in Southern California. The district’s teachers have done something very useful for parents, having “compiled a database of recommended apps on their website.” So one more piece of advice: when checking kids games websites for new kids games, don’t forget to check your kid’s school website for advice on how to spend the summer for your kid’s benefit!
